preparing for winter

To answer Bookfool and Laurie's question about the tree in the previous picture, colours of autumn, it's simply a preparation for winter. Tokyo doesn't really get much snow nowadays but the idea is that the ropes would prevent the snow from sitting directly on the branches weighing them down, perhaps causing them to break.
More of getting ready for winter, tomorrow.
