red spider lily

@mjphoto: It's primarily with red that I've noticed it. Sometimes dark purple also seems a bit difficult. It could be me, I'm not very technical and still have a lot to learn!

@Giovanni: I'm glad to hear that red can be difficult to capture, and that it's not just me!
I only have Photoshop Elements and I did use that to adjust the colours a little. I'll have to explore it further to see if I can get better results with it.

@Vinman: That's a good point. I'll have to experiment with different lighting for red when I get a chance. Thanks.

@akarui: I've heard them called either spider lilies or cluster amaryllises in English, ヒガンバナ in Japanese. They're quite unique anyway. I actually still shoot in jpeg (I'm such a beginner regarding the technical side to digital photography), so my question refers to jpeg, but your comment about RAW for red is interesting. I look forward to seeing your pictures of these flowers.

@Jeffster: The majority of the time I seem to use natural, although I do use vivid and others sometimes too. That's a good idea though, I should experiment with the same shot on the different settings and see how they compare. Thanks.

@Hikari: Thanks! I'm sure you're not alone. My husband has difficulty distinguishing between purples and blues.

@Evelyn: Thanks. It's nice to hear that I'm not alone in this. I've tried playing with the exposure too but it hasn't been as effective for me as for other colours. What is it about red? Anyway, I guess we'll just have to keep trying. :)
